May 2006:
Toronto’s
2006 ReelWorld Film Festival (RWFF) may have come and gone,
but not without leaving guests with the much-coveted bags of swag
for both men and women. The Festival, which wrapped up this past
Sunday, April 23, had invited guests and media walk away with the
goodie-filled bags that left no room for disappointment.
Swag was provided by Sasha Guy from Have Faith Productions who bestowed guests with lavish gifts from a number of sponsoring companies that included SoyLights® – Hand poured soy candles everything from glam beauty products, accessories and perfumes to funky belts, handbags and t-shirts. To polish things off, guests were given a copy of Canada’s hottest new entertainment magazine, Weekly Scoop, to ensure that no piece of celebrity gossip would go overlooked.
Sponsors, VIP’s and guests of ReelWorld who received the swag bags included academy award nominee Graham Greene, director of opening night film Kamataki, Claude Gagnon, star of CTV’s drama Doomstown, K.C. Collins, and Flip the Script star Mel Jackson.
Swag
was provided to ReelWorld Film Festival to help support racial and
cultural diversity in Canadian film and video entertainment. Actress,
director and producer Tonya Lee Williams founded ReelWorld in 2001

entertainment industry to build their dreams and hone their skills.

Iowa Candle Company finds success at home and in Hollywood
SoyLights®
Candle Company has been producing soy candles for over three years.
Originally, owners Mike and Melanie Throne sold their candles to
friends and relatives and then began selling to retailers in the
area and state. SoyLights® popularity quickly grew to reach retailers
across the country, and now even celebrities are fine SoyLights® finding out about candles.
In the spring of 2004, SoyLights® candles were one of only a small
number of companies invited to mingle with the stars as they attended
the Silver Spoon Pre-Golden Globe party in Hollywood, California.
Melanie met and gave samples of her candles to such celebrities
as Tony Danza, Tara Lipinski, Hilary Duff, Melissa George, Andy
Dick, Shannon Elizabeth, Rachel Hunter, Susan Lucci, Deidre Hall
and others.
The event was a wonderful success; Melanie explained, "So many of the celebrities came over to me and said how much they loved the candles. In fact, a number of them came back to me a second time and asked if they could take another candle for friends."
The Thrones' SoyLights® candles are becoming well known throughout Hollywood. Ryan Seacrest, host of the popular television show American Idol, regularly gives SoyLights® to celebrity guests on his On Air with Ryan Seacrest TV program. July 3, 2004, at Tori Spelling's wedding, the actress gave out SoyLights® candles as gifts to her wedding party and out-of-town guests.
"It feels good when people give SoyLights® as gifts, they recognize the quality of our candles and are proud to give them to people," Melanie states.
SoyLights® are made from American grown soybeans, unlike most candles
which are made from petroleum. They are clean burning and environmentally
friendly. Our unique soy candles are fragrant and have a simple, elegant look
which customers are proud to display in their homes or give as a
gift.
How
did a candle company from a small town in Iowa become so popular?
"We have been blessed," Melanie explained, "and when we started
this business we decided we wanted to make the best candle possible.
We have a strong desire to put care and quality into each candle
we make."

Rural Iowa might lack the thrill and excitement of
Hollywood, but a fast paced life could not hold a candle to quiet
country roads and brilliant sunsets found in the Midwest.
Melanie
Throne, of rural Scarville, along with her dad, Leo Skogen, of Lake
Mills, and sister, Beth Skogen, of Ankeny, left the snowy fields
of Iowa for awhile in January, destination – Hollywood. Once they
arrived, they would meet several television and movie stars, famous
singers, super models, comedians, and even an Olympic Gold Medalist
ice skater...
